Add ASM Instance to EM Database Control

If a database is migrated from file system to ASM storage, the ASM instance is not recognized by Enterprise Manager Database Control. We have to configure EM agent and make ASM instance visible.

1) create a new configuration file for ASM instance

[oracle@gchen-pc ~]$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/gchen-pc.localdomain_DB10R2/sysman/emd

[oracle@gchen-pc emd]$ vi asmTarget.xml

<Target TYPE="osm_instance" NAME="+ASM_db10r2.localdomain">
<Property NAME="SID" VALUE="+ASM" />
<Property NAME="MachineName" VALUE="gchen-pc.localdomain" />
<Property NAME="OracleHome" VALUE="/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db" />
<Property NAME="UserName" VALUE="sys" />
<Property NAME="password" VALUE="iamsys" ENCRYPTED="FALSE"/>
<Property NAME="Role" VALUE="sysdba" />
<Property NAME="Port" VALUE="1521" />
</Target>

Add the new target to EM targets

[oracle@gchen-pc emd]$ emctl config agent addtarget \
> /app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/gchen-pc.localdomain_DB10R2/sysman/emd/asmTarget.xml

TZ set to Europe/Vatican
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.4.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2007 Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

[oracle@gchen-pc emd]$ tail -10 targets.xml
<Target TYPE="osm_instance" NAME="+ASM_db10r2.localdomain">
<Property NAME="SID" VALUE="+ASM"/>
<Property NAME="MachineName" VALUE="gchen-pc.localdomain"/>
<Property NAME="OracleHome" VALUE="/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db"/>
<Property NAME="UserName" VALUE="sys"/>
<Property NAME="password" VALUE="0d1f9c20c0ed8879" ENCRYPTED="TRUE"/>
<Property NAME="Role" VALUE="sysdba"/>
<Property NAME="Port" VALUE="1521"/>
</Target>
</Targets>

Restart EM database console

emctl stop dbconsole

emctl start dbconsole

TZ set to Europe/Vatican
 Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.4.0
 Copyright (c) 1996, 2007 Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
 https://gchen-pc.localdomain:1158/em/console/aboutApplication
 Starting Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control ............................. started.
 ------------------------------------------------------------------
 Logs are generated in directory /app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/gchen-pc.localdomain_DB10R2/sysman/log

Now log into EM page of the database which uses ASM storage, you will see a link to ASM instance.

Click on link +ASM_db10r2.localdomain, you will see ASM instance home page. It will take a few minutes to unload necessary statistics data.
